Can the best defense be to attack?

Prof. Nur Zincir-Heywood (Dalhousie University)

ABSTRACT

Security engineers and black hat attackers continually play a game of point-counterpoint when it comes to commercial/open-source security systems. Black hat attackers continually develop methods to evade or bypass defense systems while defense system developers/researcher and system administrators continually counteract these methods with patches and new releases. In this seminar, case studies from the history of this arms race are reviewed before exploring if the best defense can be to attack.
